Tim Nieuwsma, Director

My Story

Page Photo I grew up in a Christian home and made a commitment to Christ at a young age. I did it in response to a call by a pastor for commitment.
It wasn't until I was leaving for college for the first time that ministry was even considered. My father said he hoped I might be a minister. This rare glimpse into his heart really hit me. But it wasn't until many years later that I responded to the idea. Dr. Ananda Perera challenged me to get involved in kingdom work. It struck deeply. About that time, as strange as it seemed, people started calling me Pastor Tim because of my work in the church. It seemed that ministry was pursuing me.
I began training for ministry and seeking God's call. It led to an internship at Faith Christian Fellowship, where I worked with youth and in the community, among other things. My position included prayer walks through town, and learning the needs of the community by meeting with city officials and concerned citizens. What I kept finding was a lot of kids hanging around town with nothing to do and getting into trouble. Some were pretty young. They were trying to solve their troubles, but it's the blind leading the blind. Those bad characters in the bunch were influencing the rest. Drugs, prostitution, theft, and gangs were all part of the mix.
I started working with a few of them, helping them see a better way, but there was no structure in place for me to work in. My efforts where very limited. So, in the Fall of 2007, I asked Youth Dynamics to check it out. As a Christian organization that deals head-on with youth issues, they confirmed the need and agreed to launch a new ministry in the Nooksack Valley area. The following spring they offered me the position of Area Director for this local ministry and I accepted.
I have no doubt that God orchestrated all this, and has placed me here.
