Wholehearted Adventure
Hi. I'm Becca. I've had the awesome opportunity to work with YD Adventures as summer staff for the 2005 and 2006 seasons and help out as volunteer staff in between. I am so blessed to be a part of a community, really a family, of folks who are stoked to follow Jesus, love kids, and live passionately.
I have learned so much from my time at YDA and feel like right now, the best way I can honor God is to come back again for a whole year. I look forward to serving, learning, digging into relationships with students, getting challenged, and challenging others.
My greatest goal is to bring glory to God and working for YDA combines my love of God, the outdoors, people, and to proclaim the mystery of Christ. Growing up as a Northwest youth, going on backpacking trips in the summer with my church in Alaska, and now as a young adult, I see the power of creation as a place where God can speak and we can hear that is unlike any other. YDA combines physical, mental, and spiritual challenges in community and in God's creation to inspire youth to discover what it means to live life to the full.
"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." John 10:10
I really appreciate that "Adventure" is in our name. I've been learning a ton about adventure lately as I have moved from being a college student to graduate to English teaching assistant in Austria to traveler. I love a great adventure; going out and challenging myself on a rock face or in a long running race but I am realizing more and more that adventure is in our heads. That it is more about our attitude than our location or the activity we are doing. That is what makes some of those simple things such an adventure for some but a bore to others. Wrapping my mind around God is an adventure. The challenge and joy of living my life for God is an adventure. Listening to other peoples' journeys is a great adventure as is learning, reading, watching, jumping in, staying out, questioning, walking, looking. My goal in the next year with YDA is to share the joy of this adventure of love, of life with Christ, with students, and with the community at YDA.
