About
Intense Adventures. Teambuilding. Leadership Training. Father/Son Expeditions. These are just a few of the challenging experiences offered through YD Adventures’ Washington base. The height of the challenge comes not just on what takes place during the adventure, but in what takes place in the heart of the adventurer. Explore trip options that will lead students into deeper relationships, not just among group members, but in their journey towards Christ.
YD Adventures Washington is headquartered at the Stonewater Ranch, YD’s 138-acre camp property located north of Leavenworth.
Background and History
YD Adventures (formerly Reachout Expeditions) was started in 1979 as a special ministry within Youth Dynamics (YD). Its purpose is to share Christ with those who do not know Him and to facilitate spiritual growth in those who do. Its method is to utilize adventure experiences as tools to open the hearts and minds of teens. YD’s mission is to invite and challenge youth to a lifelong journey in relationship with Christ and His church
Robin Dursch, founder of then-Reachout Expeditions, had a big heart for the “back lot” students at Anacortes high school. Why, She used to be one of them! Hiding under the bleachers, smoking and skipping classes, these students, she knew, needed new direction in their lives.
Robin’s new and growing faith in Jesus Christ, combined with her truly adventurous spirit took a handful of teenagers backpacking and sailing in the summer of 1979. The purpose was to build personal relationships and to share the Gospel with each of the youth.
As Robin’s lofty vision quickly grew, so did the program. Gradually, more staff was hired, new types of adventure programs started and different types of participants targeted.
Robin’s heart, vision, and story continue to live on in the lives of other staff with similar vision and calling.
In 2005 YD Adventures Washington moved its headquarters from Anacortes, Washington over Steven’s Pass to the newly developed Stonewater Ranch located north of Leavenworth, where it serves teens of the Northwest today.
