Looking for the V-Slick

As I have learned to guide in whitewater, one of the first things you are taught is how to enter the rapids. We are trained to look for the “V-slick”, the place in the river where the water is flowing fast, clear and deep.
So here we are with all the feelings of anticipation and excitement as the summer is upon us. The Lord has been teaching us so much, He has brought us 11 people to join us this summer on staff and we have a schedule full of trips and trainings, many opportunities to grow in our walk with the Lord and share His love, grace and calling with many who do not know Him. We have seen God move in our midst in such amazing ways and the expectancy for the summer is almost palpable!
We are seeking in the next month of training to unify as a staff and find the “V-slick”, and I believe that will find us at the foot of the cross, looking to Jesus as the only way to enter the rapids ahead. Usually we scout challenging rapids when we are on the river. The rapids ahead of us are unknown to us, but not to our Guide! It is my prayer that we all, as we seek to follow our Savior wherever He leads, would fix our eyes on Him, knowing “He is not tame, but He is good!” (CS Lewis) The adventure ahead of us is indeed an amazing one, it is not without risk, fears and discomforts, but it comes with a promise that, “He is with us!” (Is 43:5) Here we are Lord, send us!
