Background and History
In 1990 Paul and Faye Spence along with two other YD Adventure staff took an 80-mile trip down the Lower Salmon River. On that trip a dream of being able to run this style of trip with students from YD Adventures was born. Extended river trips provide amazing ministry opportunities. In 1995 we guided our first two groups down the Salmon and the vision had come to fruition. Since then we've expanded into other rivers and have also ran extended river trips on the Owyhee River which is an hour and a half South of Boise.
The ministry we've experienced on these extended river trips has been incredible. An extended river trip is unlike anything else we do. It provides so many opportunities to build relationship. It also is a unique environment to do wilderness programming, which points teens towards Christ. In January 2004 the Youth Dynamics Board approved our expansion into Idaho.
Our commitment has been to make sure that this is the Lord's vision and not something being mustered up by us. We know there will be rapids that we will encounter, but with God in the guide seat we are confidant that they will be navigated. Our desire for the YD Adventures ID branch is to increase our ability to minister to youth on extended trips. There will however be many groups that desire to have a one to three day experience with us. With this in mind, being located in the Boise area gives us good access to the Payette River corridor, other natural resources and the largest population in Idaho. This area also allows us close access to the Lower Salmon and the Owyhee River where we are currently operating.
